The bronze reliquary for the relics of Saint Charbel was designed and crafted in our workshop. The bronze sculpture allows for the reproduction of the finest details of the figure, such as the asymmetrical eyebrows and the folds of the hood. We depicted this saint according to the only photograph we had available. The saint’s eyes are closed, and his hands are folded in a characteristic gesture. The relic container is placed at heart level.
St. Charbel Machluf
During Father Charbel’s lifetime, no one photographed him or painted his portrait. No one except his monks saw his face. So, how did we know how to carve the reliquary of Saint Charbel? On May 8, 1950, something extraordinary happened. Several Maronite missionaries took a photo in front of his hermitage. After developing the photograph, it turned out to contain an additional figure, a monk with a white beard and a hood. The older monks recognized him as Father Charbel. This image is officially recognized by the Church.
